Keep It Simple Scrapbooking (KISS)

  • Posted on January 30, 2009 at 2:54 pm

For a long time I would not sit down and Scrapbook unless I had hours of time available and great inspiration for a design in my mind. In other words, I would not sit down and Scrapbook…EVER! Seriously, how many of us ever have enough time or enough artistic inspiration to Scrapbook. Oh, I’m sure there are a few of you out there, but I am not one of them. It occurred to me if I have to wait to get started I will never get started. So I have a new way to scrap and it so simple, it can be done in 10 minutes or 3 hours. It doesn’t really matter how much time you have, all you have to do is get started.

This is not a new or unique idea going on here. If any of you have done Ali Edwards December Daily, this is the same concept, except for our ‘daily’ scrapbooking.

Okay, here goes!

  1. Buy or create an ‘album’ any size you want but I recomment it be 6″ X 8″ so you will have room to put 4 X 6 photos and your journaling on the pages. Keeping your photos at 4 x 6 will be a huge time saver.
  2. Whenever you have a couple of minutes, make a background page or two, add frames or lines for journaling, add embelishments, and if you know what pics you are going to be using, make Titles for your pages now.
  3. Then, later you can add your photos or journaling when you have more time. I recommend making an album with 20 to 30 pages so you will be ready when the photos come back from Walgreen’s or Wal-Mart, wherever you get them printed. I wait until there is a special like 50 photos for $5 and then print a bunch at a time. I put them into Photo Albums until I have time to transfer them to scrapbook pages.
  4. You will be surprised at the great ideas the come to you when you are looking at a small 6 X 8 or 6 X 6 or 8 X 8 page. I seem to be more inspired with the smaller pages than trying to fill a Huge Blank 12 x 12 page. I made some darling backgrounds that I just don’t take the time to do with my 12 x 12′s because I think it will take to long or waste paper or I can never seem to fill that space! :)

I have uploaded a few pics of my December Daily Pages just to give you an idea. I will be working on mine this weekend and show you pictures or maybe a video of what I accomplished and how long it took me.

Isn’t the reason we scrapbook so we can record life’s journey’s? Not to win an art contest. Let’s not lose sight of what really matters here. Nothing wrong with art, I love doing art tags and cards, etc., but when I’m scrapbooking, I want to enjoy that journey as well.

Enjoy and Create!!

Books:Scrapbooking Mystery Series by Laura Childs

  • Posted on January 29, 2009 at 9:14 am

It’s been five days since I have been among the living. I got smacked with a cold or virus over the weekend and this is my first day back at work. Whew! Staying in bed five days is a real drag.

At first I just laid there thinking of all the scrappin’ I could be doing. Then I decided to read. I love to read mysteries, but I was still thinking Scrapbooking. So, I grabbed one of Laura Childs Scrapbooking Mysteries, Bound for Murder, and satisfied both indulgences.

This was the second book I have read in this series. It’s what some people call a ‘Cozy Mystery’ or ‘Chicklit’. It was perfect for lying in bed with a stuffy head and sore throat. Not too heavy that I had to really think about what I was reading but, interesting enough to keep me turning pages.

It’s very nice that there are recipe’s and scrapbooking tips in the back of the book. Of course I always read those first. That’s kind of fun. Also, some of the projects they are working on during the story line are interesting ideas as well.

The gest of the series is about a gal named Carmela Bertrand who owns a Scrapbooking Store named Memory Mine, (Cute name huh?) in New Orleans. She has a group of ‘regulars’ that hang out at the table in the back of the store, ‘Crafter’s Central’. They all get together practically every day and work on their own projects. Sometimes Carmela is teaching a class on something so it’s kind of fun.

Somehow, Carmela seems to get involved in a murder or some kind of ‘mystery’ that is happening or has happened withing her area. The characters are wonderful and the story lines are always fun and keep you guessing until the end of the book.

I highly recommend these little gems that are a quick read and indulge our addiction to Scrapbooking. For more information go to Laurachilds.com.

Sisters Scrapbook Page

I put this page together yesterday and I love how it came out. The paper was cute to start with but adding the gems in the snowbank at the bottom and adding the large glitter snowflakes on the photos added just the right touch to make this a clean and simple layout.
